Upgrading Indiana University’s Parking Garages

No matter how large or complex your project, Priority can make it happen! That’s why we’re so proud to share one of our most recent projects: creating and installing extensive parking garage signage at Indiana University.

After a competitive bidding process, Priority Graphics won the outdoor project, which consisted of producing and installing over 1,000 signs in four garages on IU’s campus in Bloomington, Indiana. The multi-level parking structures ranged from two to six levels each. To complicate matters further, they had to remain open and operating during the project, which lasted approximately four months from the award of the bid to the final completion.

Our team started by coordinating preparatory work with the IU team. The University provided blueprints of the four garages, and Priority Outdoors sent a Preinstall Team to the site. There, they were able to review the desired location of each sign, take additional measurements where needed, and look for any potential problems and issues that might arise during the project.

After assembling their findings, the Preinstall Team shared them with the larger Priority Graphics team, who compared everything with the bid submitted and submitted any necessary revisions. They also developed a plan for the acquisition of materials (such as printing substrates and installation hardware), the labor needed for print production and installation, the special equipment needed for the installation, and the final project timeline. This plan and timeline, along with any additional cost adjustments, were sent to and approved by IU.

Once the approval was in hand, we got the ball rolling! For better efficiency and materials management, materials were purchased on a rolling schedule, based on the print and installation timeline. We handled the print production of the signage, delivery to the site, and installation in batches; this also had to take into account the fact that existing signage had to be removed prior to new signage being installed.

Throughout the entire process, Priority Graphics prioritized communication and transparency with our IU partners. We held progress meetings with IU officials and IU Engineering throughout the project, and our team frequently took and shared pictures to document the progression of the work. As we received feedback, we made adjustments when needed. We also emphasized safety as a primary concern, along with providing quality products and installation.

Upon completion, final photos were provided to the IU stakeholders for a final review and documentation. We also provided all installation information to the IU Engineering Team so that the master blueprints for each garage could be updated.

The project was a resounding success for both Priority and IU! In fact, the University’s satisfaction with Priority’s work has already resulted in additional projects as part of an ongoing partnership. The success of this project is just one more example of Priority’s commitment to taking on new challenges and working on complex projects that are sure to have a lasting impact.
